Developers working on compact, wireless, and low-power projects often face a trade-off between performance, flexibility, and ease of use. Whether you’re building wearables, smart sensors, or battery-powered prototypes, choosing the right development board is crucial for balancing size, power efficiency, and advanced features.
The Seeed Studio XIAO nRF54L15 addresses these needs with a compact form factor, built-in wireless support, onboard sensors, and robust security features. Designed around Nordic’s latest SoC, this board offers BLE 6.0, Matter, Thread, Zigbee, and more—making it ideal for modern IoT and edge applications.
Seeed Studio XIAO nRF54L15 specifications:
The Seeed Studio XIAO nRF54L15 and XIAO nRF54L15 Sense use Nordic’s nRF54L15 SoC with a 128 MHz Arm Cortex-M33 processor that supports DSP and FPU, paired with a 128 MHz RISC-V security coprocessor. Both models provide 1.5 MB of non-volatile memory, 256 KB of RAM, and multi-protocol 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity for Bluetooth LE 6.0 with Channel Sounding, NFC, Thread, Zigbee (IEEE 802.15.4-2020), Matter, Amazon Sidewalk, and proprietary protocols up to 4 Mbps. They deliver +8 dBm TX power and –96 dBm RX sensitivity. The Sense variant adds a 6-axis IMU (LSM6DS3TR-C) and a digital microphone (MSM261DGT006) for motion and audio applications.
Both boards include a 14-bit ADC, a global RTC that runs in System OFF mode (~600 nA), and lithium battery management with USB Type-C power input. They offer Arm TrustZone isolation, secure boot, firmware protection, secure key management, debug access control, cryptographic acceleration with side-channel resistance, and tamper detection. They operate from 3.7 V to 5 V, withstand –40 °C to +105 °C, and support ultra-low power performance for long-life battery-powered IoT devices.
The Seeed Studio XIAO nRF54L15 offers robust security features, including TrustZone, secure boot, firmware protection, secure key management, debug access control, cryptographic acceleration with side-channel resistance, and tamper detection. A global RTC remains active even in low-power modes such as System OFF, which consumes just 600 nA. Developers can build on Nordic’s nRF Connect SDK with full support for PlatformIO and Zephyr RTOS, making it the first XIAO board to natively support Zephyr and contribute upstream to the project. While Arduino IDE is not currently supported, the module’s surface-mount design with standardized stamp holes ensures compatibility with Seeed’s Fusion PCBA service and Open Parts Library. More information is available on the wiki page.
Seeed Studio sells the XIAO nRF54L15 Sense for $15.90 in the unsoldered version and $17.99 for the pre-soldered version. On AliExpress, the pre-soldered version costs $12.13, while the unsoldered version costs $10.70, with an additional $8.63 shipping charge for either option.
