Advantech has launched the Mio-5355, a strong and versatile 3.5-inch single board computer (SBC) designed for edge AI, industrial automation, and IoT gateway systems where efficiency, power use, and durability are essential. It belongs to the series of Advantech Mio-5000 and is designed to offer superior computing functions in a small form factor so that it can fit in tight spaces and rugged environments.
The Mios-5355 is a Qualcomm QCS6490 or QCS5430 processor-based (an ARM-based system on a chip) system consisting of eight Kryo 670 CPU cores with a maximum frequency of 2.7 GHz, an Adreno 643-based graphics card, and an in-built Neural Processing System (NPU) with up to approximately 12.3 TOPS of artificial intelligence (AI) capability. The two combinations enable the board to execute more advanced AI inference workloads, such as machine vision, real-time analytics, and autonomous control at comparatively modest power.
If it is your first time learning about a small SBC like this, then you can check out the MSI MS-CF19 and the AAEON GENE-ARH6 for your reference, cause both are 3.5-inch subcompact industrial SBCs.
3.5-inch industrial SBC features:
The durable hardware design is one of the highlights of the Mios-5355. This board helps to run a system over a wide temperature range of −20 °C to 70 °C, which is applicable to applications in harsh industrial conditions, such as outdoor kiosks, factory floors, or smart city installations. The SBC includes 8 GB LPDDR5 memory and 128 GB UFS memory onboard or eMMC memory, which has a great basis to run the operating algorithms and the edge applications.
It has numerous connectivity and expansion features, such as varying display connections, including HDMI and LVDS (with optional eDP), and a wide range of I/O ports, including 2x GbE Ethernet, 6X USB, 4 serial COM ports, 2x MIPI-CSI camera connections and audio. The product has three M.2 slots, such as an E-Key 2230 slot (for Wi-Fi/Bluetooth), a B-Key 3052 slot (for cellular (4G/LTE)) and a B-Key 2280 slot (for high-speed NVMe-storage).
Software support and Availability:
The board also works with numerous operating systems, such as Windows on Arm and Ubuntu, that provides developers with the freedom to build and deploy applications. The Advantech Mios-5355 will perform well in edge computing environments that need efficient computing and dependable functionality in harsh conditions due to its integrated AI, ruggedness and highly effective network connections.
The Mios-5355 SBC is currently on sale at Advantech’s store and its authorised industrial distributors across the world at the time of writing. Nevertheless, the company do not publicly list official prices, just as industrial-grade SBCs do. The last price is based on configuration, order volume and region, and thus, the customer must request a quote directly with Advantech or a distribution company located close to the area. Analysts project that the price will fall to the mid-to-high end of industrial embedded boards, based on similar Advantech 3.5-inch SBCs, driven by its Qualcomm AI-oriented SoC and rugged design.
