Waveshare has revealed the ESP32-H2-Zero, a small but strong development board made for new IoT and smart-home projects. Built using the ESP32-H2FH4S chip from Espressif, this compact board includes a 32-bit RISC-V processor that works at speeds up to 96 MHz, and it also has 320 KB of SRAM, 128 KB of ROM, 4 KB of low-power memory, and 4 MB of built-in flash memory.
The ESP32-H2-Zero is unique because it supports different types of wireless connections. Along with IEEE 802.15.4 for Zigbee 3.0 and Thread 1.3, it has Bluetooth 5, which combines low energy and mesh networking. It is also Compatible with Matter via Thread, which enables it to function well with several smart home platforms.

ESP32-H2 Mini Development Board features:
The ESP32-H2-Zero is unique because it supports different types of wireless connections. It has Bluetooth 5, which includes both low energy and mesh networking, along with IEEE 802.15.4 for Zigbee 3.0 and Thread 1.3. It is also compatible with Matter through Thread, which helps it work well with various smart home systems.
The board is rather small, measuring 23.5 x 15.24 mm. Its USB-C port makes it simple to power, programme, and troubleshoot. It also has special edges and extra pin headers that help with soldering the board or putting it into custom boards without much hassle. The hardware also offers a built-in 2.4 GHz ceramic antenna, BOOT and RESET buttons, a WS2812 RGB indicator LED, and support for up to 15 GPIOs—including ADC, UART, SPI, JTAG, power rails, and extra pads customizable for USB, BOOT, or LOG functions.

Complementing its hardware, Waveshare provides comprehensive support for both ESP-IDF and Arduino IDE development environments, complete with code samples (e.g., “Hello World,” GPIO, RGB LED, UART, I2C, SPI, Bluetooth, and Zigbee) and full documentation on its Wiki.
Compared to the ESP32-P4-WiFi6 Development Board built for high-performance edge AI and WiFi 6 projects, the ESP32-H2-Zero is a compact, low-cost board focused on low-power IoT nodes with Zigbee, Thread, and Matter support.

Price and availability:
In terms of availability, the ESP32-H2-Zero development board is already available for purchase through several online platforms. Priced on AliExpress at around $3.79 without headers, the board costs roughly $4.65 with pre-soldered headers. Depending on the setup, the official Waveshare store quotes it within a similar range, between $3.49 and $4.49. Found on Amazon and other electronics retailers, the ESP32-H2-Zero is easily available for developers all around.
